How to calculate your body mass index (BMI)

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of a person's body fat based on their weight and height, and is calculated as follows:

The BMI value is generally interpreted as follows:
 

BMI value Interpretation
18.5 and under Underweight
18.5 - 25 Normal
25 - 30 Overweight
30 and over Obese


BMI results work equally well for adult men and women of normal muscular build.
